The influence of social exclusion for people with mental health difficulties generally was considered in our 2003 Social Exclusion Unit response.

In 2009, UMHAN drew together a report which expanded upon the issues within Higher Education, while taking into account the changes in legislation and national policies in relation to student mental health and set the scene for the development of Mental Health Services teams.

It covers:

  • Social exclusion
  • Social capital
  • The student experience
  • Peer support
  • Fair access
  • Contract, negligence and duty of care
  • Stress and mental health
  • Disability  - Discrimination, Services, Funding
  • Data protection

It also defines the key parameters that define effective support for students.
